Purpose
Mountain Mentors operates under the umbrella of the Easter Seals Family Friends program. Valley Mental Health assists in technical assistance, training mentors and referring children. Mentors and children participate in recreational, academic, cultural and family-based activities to improve skill development and acculturation for low income, elementary and middle school children, non-English speaking children, and special needs children identified and referred for improved skill development. Adult mentors are matched with elementary and middle school students for assistance with academic performance, recreation, language development, and acculturation. Each pair meets at least one hour per week. Ongoing commitment of one year required for each mentor match.
