Women's Mood Management Group

Purpose

  1. To assist women in identifying and understanding their moods and the stimuli and thoughts that proceed and accompany them.
  2. To provide women with life skills necessary to lead a more fulfilling and productive life.
  3. To provide women with a forum in which they can discuss personal issues in a confidential setting, learning and drawing support from each other.

Objectives

  1. Identify and understand moods and their accompanying thoughts and feelings.
  2. Identify and change thinking errors.
  3. Learn effective problem-solving skills.
  4. Learn effective anger-management tools.
  5. Learn effective communication skills.
  6. Learn effective relaxation and self-help techniques.
  7. Empower women and help them to learn how to celebrate their femininity.

Evaluation

  1. All group members will be given a survey at the beginning of the group asking: l) what they expect out of the group, and 2) what personal issues they hope to work on.
  2. Progress will be monitored through weekly discussions and homework assignments.
  3. All group members will be given a survey at the end of the eight-week group addressing: l) if their expectations were met, 2) if they made progress on the issues they needed to address, and 3) recommendations for future groups

Method

  1. Group will be an open-ended eight-session group. Each session will last 1 1/2 hours.
  2. Each group will consist of a weekly psychoeducational theme. The themes are designed to stimulate intense discussion in a relaxed atmosphere.
  3. Each group member will complete weekly homework assignments that coincide with relevant topics. These are designed to reinforce learning and stimulate self-discovery
